AGRICULTURAL CREDIT DEPARTMENT

The Bank has consistently supported Government's agricultural programmes by providing credit to farmers and agro-allied industries. In promoting agricultural development, the Bank has designed a special product named “ Global Limit for Micro Credit Farmers” which allows individual farmers and institutions to have access to agricultural facility for any farming project of their choice. The Bank had disbursed N9.814billion from 1988 to 2005 while N4.04billion had been set aside for the 2006/2007 financial year for lending to farmers under the Global Limit scheme.

Furthermore, Union Bank's active participation in the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme (ACGF) since its inception in 1977 is attested to by the numerous awards won in federal and state competitions by our clients and those won by the Bank itself. Union Bank won the Best Performing Bank Award under ACGF from 1993 - 2004. In 2004, the State Farmer of the year Award for 28 states went to farmers borrowing from Union Bank. Also, the National Farmer of the year award for 2004 was won by one of our customers.

Farmers also have access to the funds set aside under the Small and Medium  Industries Equity Investment Scheme. Moreover, the Bank provides technical and financial assistance to farmers relating to agricultural production such as crops, livestock production, fishery, etc.
