George stepped into national and international limelight in 2012 when she began to compete for Nigeria’s senior team, and remains one of the country’s most talented and consistent athletes ever since. She performed the exceptional feat of winning the women’s National 400m title twice in a row, and has since won several medals for Nigeria.
Some of Regina’s accomplishments as a member of Team Nigeria include winning a Bronze medal at the 2014 World Relays in the Bahamas as a member of the 4x400m relay team, and upgrading to Gold in the 4x200m at the 2015 edition of the tournament. She was also a part of the 4x400m team that won Silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. George won an individual Silver medal in the 400m at the 2012 African Championships, and Gold and Silver medals in the 4x400m at the 2014 and 2016 editions of the competition.
George commands a huge following on social media going by her popularity on and off the track, and became the most talked about athlete on the Nigerian cyberspace last weekend where her tweet, asking for support for the Rio Olympics, got more than 2000 re-tweets, an appeal which Union Bank has since responded to. George will be making her second Olympics appearance in Rio, after her debut in London four years ago.
